Our timeline of growth and success

We’re a B2B renewable energy company empowering switched on customers, generators and partners to get to net zero. Founded in 2000, we’ve gone from strength to strength, and are here for the long term.

Our story so far

2000

We were established as an aggregator of independent generation projects

2008

We entered the UK supply market, powering Commercial and Industrial businesses with renewable energy

2012

We were awarded Energy Supplier of the Year 2012

2015

We launched the UK’s first certified 100% Renewable Supply product for Commercial and Industrial businesses

2018

We were awarded Energy Supplier of the Year for the second time 

2019

We acquired our UK SME supply business, SmartestEnergy Business, and opened our first international office in Syracuse, New York

2020

Our UK Headquarters moved to Canary Wharf, and we opened a second international office in Sydney, Australia

2023

We extended our accreditation of renewable products to SME businesses in the UK, and we launched our new brand identity centred on our efforts to empower a greener generation.

2024 milestones

With a 25 year history of driving energy markets forward and empowering the net zero transition, we’ve hit a few important milestones along the way. Here are some from 2024.

4000 energy labels were issued to showcase our customers zero-carbon electricity consumption, verified by the Carbon Trust
Signing our first CPPA we met our customer's demand across across 3,500 sites
"AAA" rating acheived by our parent company, Marubeni, from the MSCI Japan ESG Select Leaders Index
100% renewable energy proposition was boosted through Carbon Trust accreditation and a global reforestation scheme with Ecologi
